LOS ANGELES : Council to Take 2nd Look at Contract

The Los Angeles City Council voted Wednesday to reconsider a decision to suspend a $566,300 job-training contract with a San Fernando Valley agency for the disabled.

Councilman Mark Ridley-Thomas asked for the reconsideration and the council voted unanimously in favor of taking another look at the decision to revoke the contract with ADEPT (Assisting the Disabled with Employment and Training).

The council’s action to drop the contract with ADEPT was prompted by a federal investigation into allegations of double billing by the nonprofit agency. The council will reconsider its action Friday.

Ridley-Thomas said he sought the new vote at the request of ADEPT’s leadership. ADEPT Executive Director Lark Galloway-Gilliam said the vote was a step toward vindication for her agency.
