J. Murray Yunker; Retired President of Certified Grocers
J. Murray Yunker, former president and chairman of Certified Grocers of California Ltd., has died. He was 83.
Yunker worked for the organization for 45 years, beginning as a mail clerk and handyman. He worked his way up through the advertising and purchasing departments, and in 1951 was named first vice president and assistant general manager.
He became executive vice president in 1960 and was named president in 1961. He was elevated to corporate chairman in 1973 and retired in 1974.
Yunker was honored by USC in 1965 for outstanding leadership in the food distribution industry.
In addition to his wife, Margaret, Yunker is survived by two sons, James L. and John M. Yunker Jr., two daughters, Kathleen Burg and Mary Patt, a sister and nine grandchildren.
