McDonnell Promotions: McDonnell Douglas Electronic Systems Co. said Thursday that John T. Merry has been appointed vice president and general manager of the company’s Surveillance and Electronic Systems Division.

Merry, who most recently served as vice president and deputy general manager of the Santa Ana-based division, will oversee facilities in Santa Ana and Monrovia, which together employ about 1,800 people. The division’s products include sighting systems, special sensors and electronic equipment for commercial and military transport aircraft.

He replaces R. Gale Schluter, who was appointed vice president and deputy general manager of the Space Station Division of McDonnell Douglas Space Systems Co. in Huntington Beach. Both promotions will be effective Monday.

Merry has also served as director of operations at McDonnell Douglas Astronautics Co. in Monrovia and as program director for the Mast Mounted Sight project, an electro-optical sighting system. He began his career at McDonnell Aircraft Co. in St. Louis in 1962 as a project auditor.
