UCI Police Warn Students About Male Assailant

UC Irvine police have posted flyers around campus alerting students to an assault in which a woman was attacked by a man as she was about to get into her car, authorities said Thursday.

The 29-year-old woman, whose name was not released, received bruises on her arms and body but did not require hospitalization after the Tuesday night attack, said Acting Police Chief Dennis L. Powers.

Police began posting flyers a few hours after the woman reported the incident about 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Powers said. The woman told police she was standing next to her car in a parking lot off Adobe Circle Road when a man wearing latex surgical gloves came up behind her and tried to push her through the open door, Powers said.

She fought with the man, kicking him at least once before he ran off about 11:45 p.m., Powers said.

Powers urged anyone with information about the incident to call campus police at (714) 856-5223.
