The Women’s National Book Assn./Los Angeles Chapter will give its Judy Lopez Memorial Award for Children’s Literature to Sook Nyul Choi at a tea at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Ritz-Carlton Marina del Rey.

The award honors the memory of Lopez, a bookseller and publishers representative. Lopez, who died in 1985, was a founder of the WNBA Los Angeles Chapter, and because of her deep interest in children’s books, the group established the award, which honors the best book of the year for 9- to 12-year-olds.

The Lopez Medal for the best such book of 1991 goes to Choi for “Year of Impossible Goodbyes,” published by Houghton Mifflin. The novel is based on the author’s childhood experiences in the Japanese occupation of Korea during World War II.
