Ayrton Senna broke the track record at Montreal to take the provisional pole for the Canadian Grand Prix. The defending Formula One champion from Brazil drove his McLaren-Honda around the 2.753-mile circuit on the Isle du Notre Dame in 1 minute 19.775 seconds, breaking the mark of 1:19.837 set last year by Riccardo Patrese of Italy.
