UCLA was the only casualty Friday in final qualifying for the seven berths in the men’s National Collegiate Rowing Championships, held on Harsha Lake in East Fork State Park.

Teams from Pennsylvania, Harvard, Princeton, Navy, Cornell, Dartmouth and Washington will compete in the men’s finals this afternoon. The field for the women’s final, also to be held today, had already been determined.

Penn’s heavyweight varsity eight rowers won the first 2,000-meter qualifying heat Friday, finishing in 5:58:52. Harvard was second in 5:59:47, followed by Princeton in 6:03:37 and Washington in 6:07:01. Navy won the second heat in 6:01:00, followed by Cornell in 6:03:05, Dartmouth in 6:06:12 and UCLA in 6:11:86.

As the two fourth-place finishers, Washington and UCLA then dueled for the seventh and final berth, with the Huskies prevailing.

Washington’s victory kept alive the Huskies’ chance for a rare double title--the Washington women are also in the final.

The other women’s finalists are Boston University, UC Davis, Wisconsin, Princeton and Cornell.
