Rapper From Agoura Will Face Battery Charges After Hotel Brawl : Entertainers: Two stabbing victims said the celebrity, whose name is Andre Young, was their attacker.

Rapper Dr. Dre of N.W.A., also known as Andre Young of Agoura, has surrendered to police and was booked on two counts of aggravated battery.

Young was arrested May 22 in the lobby of the New Orleans Sheraton Hotel on Canal Street during a brawl that took as many as 80 police officers, some of them on horses, to break up.

Police said the brawl started when Young, 27, and his group and their entourage tried to enter the hotel’s lobby after they were denied admittance to the premier of the movie “Mo’ Money” at a theater a few blocks away.

They were in New Orleans in connection with a black radio executives convention.

Hotel officials said the rappers could not get in because they did not have passes. But some made it into the lobby and were asked to leave.

A fight broke out among the 300 people in the lobby, but police said only about 50 were involved.

Before police could quell the disturbance, two New Orleans men suffered knife wounds.

Young and other members of N.W.A. were booked on several charges--including battery on a police officer, inciting a riot, criminal damage and resisting arrest. All were freed on bond on May 23 and returned to their homes, police said.

Detectives said that during a photo lineup, both knifing victims identified Young as their attacker.

Young returned to New Orleans Thursday to face charges.
