California IN BRIEF : BERKELEY : Newborn Kidnaped From Hospital
Police were searching for a woman who apparently kidnaped a newborn girl from Alta Bates Hospital after telling the mother she worked for the county. The woman apparently told the mother she was with the Women, Infants and Children Program, which provides mothers with food and housing, said hospital spokeswoman Carolyn Kemp. Police described the suspect as being about 24, with long blond hair in a ponytail, 5 feet, 4 inches tall, 120 pounds. “The hospital is very, very concerned and sorry for what happened today,” Kemp said.
