More Views on Soka Plan

Share

I read with much interest your recent article regarding Soka University (“Soka Site’s Important Role Cited,” Valley edition of The Times). I would like to comment on a couple of specific points.

The first is that I’m perplexed why the park service does not have a plan for this “long coveted” property. They’ve obviously taken great interest in this particular property, yet curiously don’t even have a plan.

The other point has to do with the park service’s assertion that only 29 or so people may visit this facility on any given day. I would like to ask your readers: are you aware that an elected official, on behalf of the park service, recently requested from Congress $33 million as part of a larger fund to obtain that property through eminent domain. In the article of the previous day regarding the park service, mention was made about potential park and beach closures, personnel cutbacks and insufficient maintenance funds.

I find it ironic that in this time of almost daily reports of budget cutbacks, budget deficits and so on, that anyone could contemplate allocating so much tax dollars for a facility to service 29 people a day!

And people ask, what’s wrong with America!
