John F. Schaefer has been appointed to the newly created position of president and chief operating officer of McGaw Inc. He has been elected to the board of directors of the Irvine-based manufacturer of intravenous solutions, biomedical equipment and other products. McGaw also provides services to hospitals and health care companies. Schaefer was formerly president and chief operating officer of Levolor Corp. He also served as senior vice president of Baker Hughes Inc. and was president of its process equipment group. From 1971 to 74, Schaefer was staff assistant to President Richard M. Nixon.
