Gates in L.A.; the Bush bunch in Rio; Xandra Kayden’s comments regarding surviving the loss of power (“Why Gates Won’t Let Go: the Pain of Losing Power,” Commentary, June 9) apply just as aptly to our national character as they do to some departing public servants. Faced with inevitable change, we dig in our heels; turn petulant. It is indeed time for us all to think about the future.
