LEMON GROVE : Not-Guilty Plea in Deputy Shooting

James Michael Bright pleaded not guilty Monday to charges of attempted murder in the shooting of a sheriff’s deputy during a routine traffic stop.

Bright, 26, is being held in lieu of $1 million bail. He is accused of shooting Deputy Paul E. Kain on June 6 in Lemon Grove.

Municipal Judge Nicholas Kasimatis scheduled a preliminary hearing for June 26. Bright waived his right to a bail review hearing.

Bright’s co-defendant, 26-year-old Heather Anne McVey, is scheduled to be arraigned today.
