NEWBURY PARK : Amgen Plans to Move 200 Workers

Share

The Amgen biotechnology company has announced plans to transfer 200 employees from its headquarters in Newbury Park just over the county line to Westlake Village.

The workers, mostly employees in Amgen’s product development and marketing division, will move when the company finishes renovating two buildings that it has purchased at 4330 and 4360 Park Terrace Drive, said Ed Bjurstrom, director for engineering and construction.

The two buildings total 111,000 square feet. The work is expected to be finished in November, he said.

The company has expanded because of increased demand for its two pharmaceutical products, Epogen, an anti-anemia drug for kidney dialysis patients, and Neupogen, which strengthens the immune systems of chemotherapy patients, he said.

Space planning manager Chuck Seeger said the buildings and 5.77 acres of property were purchased from Security Pacific Bank for about $3.5 million. Escrow on the property closed Friday.

Amgen employs about 1,500 people at its headquarters on 1840 De Havilland Drive in Newbury Park and is one of the fastest-growing pharmaceutical firms in the country.
