A U. S. District Court judge on Monday sentenced an Oxnard man to eight years and nine months in federal prison for the 1991 robbery of a 1st Nationwide Bank in Oxnard, the FBI said.

Max Maurice Majeno, 36, had been convicted by a federal jury March 9 after a two-day trial in Los Angeles, said Gary Auer, FBI supervisor for Ventura County.

U. S. District Judge James M. Ideman also ordered Majeno to serve three years of probation after his prison sentence, Auer said.

Majeno handed a note to a bank teller that read, “This is a robbery and I got gun,” Auer said.

After the robbery, a bank employee followed Majeno to a shopping center, and other witnesses saw him enter a restaurant.

Oxnard police arrested Majeno at the restaurant with the robbery note and some of the money taken from the bank, Auer said. He did not know how much money Majeno had taken.

The bank robbery was one of 52 in Ventura County last year. Auer said 38 of them have been solved by police.
