Key Mafia Figure Guilty of Murder, Racketeering
The reputed boss of one of the nation’s largest and most violent Mafia families was convicted Monday of murder and racketeering charges that could send him to prison for life.
Vittorio (Vic) Amuso, 58, was found guilty on all 54 counts. Authorities said he ran the Lucchese crime family until his arrest. U.S. District Judge Eugene Nickerson did not set a sentencing date.
The case against Amuso stemmed from a federal investigation of bid-rigging in the city’s window-replacement industry, but included allegations of a range of corruption in the trucking, air freight, construction and garbage-hauling industries.
Amuso is the city’s second reputed Mafia boss to be convicted this year. Gambino crime family boss John Gotti was convicted April 2 of murder and racketeering, and faces life imprisonment when he is sentenced June 23.
