GM Plans 500 Layoffs at Missouri Plant: General Motors Corp. said it will reduce production at its Wentzville, Mo., auto assembly plant in the fall, placing 500 workers on indefinite layoff. It blamed the move on slow sales of its full-sized Buick Park Avenue, Pontiac Bonneville and Oldsmobile 88 models, which are built at the facility. GM, which lost more than $4 billion last year, has embarked on a massive restructuring plan that calls for the closure of 21 U.S. plants with a loss of 74,000 jobs over the next four years.
