LOS ANGELES : DWP Budget OKd With $50-Million Cutback
The Los Angeles Board of Water and Power Commissioners on Tuesday approved a $3-billion budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1 that is down $50 million from this year’s budget.
“We’re holding the line, despite critical needs . . . throughout the city,” said Board President Mike Gage. “While this . . . budget will make it difficult, we will do everything we can to assure the continued delivery of reliable electricity, quality water and effective service to all our customers.”
For the water system, the $561-million 1992-93 budget is significantly lower than last year’s, Gage said. Capital expenditures are down $103.2 million and operation and maintenance expenditures are $15 million lower, he said.
James Wickser, assistant general manager for water, said the utility is “working within the 3.6% increase approved by the City Council in January.”
