Altadena : Council Commends Deputy

Share

Upset over a complaint directed at an Altadena sheriff’s deputy by one of its members, the Town Council voted 12-1 Tuesday to commend the officer.

The action arose over a letter Councilman Steven Lamb wrote to Supervisor Mike Antonovich and other county officials blasting Lt. John Samuel for removing “Stop La Vina” signs from trees and on antique cars in the May 16 Old Fashioned Day Parade. The sign referred to a proposed development that the Town Council has proposed reducing.

Lamb said Samuel applied the law unequally in not also taking down political signs and asked that he be required to reimburse the county for the time taken by his action.

Samuel said that he found the signs provocative and out of place and that residents at the council meeting strongly supported him.

In making the motion, Councilman Frank Bridal said, “It would be disgusting to besmirch the record of a fine officer who has done so much for the community.”

Lamb cast the opposing vote.
