U.S. Policy in Yugoslavia

Share

While the ethnic hatred among the various nationalities of the former Yugoslav Federation is correctly depicted in your article (“In Croatia, the Enemy Next Door,” June 8), the writer fails to mention the main cause behind the hostilities.

Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic and the Serbian communists are conducting a well-organized campaign to destroy the secessionist republics, take large parts of their territories and annex them to a Greater Serbia.

The so-called Yugoslav Federation has been, in the past, kept together by coercion by a Serbian-dominated government. When the communist oppression started to wane, the Slovens, Croats, Bosnians and Macedonians wanted to be independent.

Seeing the end of Serbian supremacy, the Milosevic gang retaliated with blood baths against civilians. Croats may hate Serbs, Serbs may hate Croats, but the force causing this immense human tragedy is Serbian communist aggression.
