INGLEWOOD : Council Seeks Comments on Hollywood Park Plan
Inglewood is in the enviable position of having a gift horse on its doorstep but, nonetheless, should “kick its tires and check it’s health” before supporting a proposed $100-million expansion at Hollywood Park, Councilman Daniel K. Tabor said.
Expansion plans, which backers say will create 3,000 jobs for Inglewood and other employment-hungry areas nearby, include a card club, which must be approved by Inglewood voters. Park officials want the council to put the card club measure on the November ballot.
Council members said Tuesday night that they would study the proposed expansion and seek citizens’ input before agreeing to it. Deadline for the ballot would be Aug. 2. Regardless of how voters react to the card club, park officials say they will go ahead with the rest of the expansion, which includes a 16,000-seat music center and a golf academy. They say they will also donate land to the city for a new police headquarters.
