The oldest of the five armed suspects arrested outside the scene of a home-invasion robbery Monday night was arraigned in Municipal Court on Wednesday on 17 felony counts, including a penalty-enhancement count reserved for gang members, authorities said.

Hoang Van Doan, 19, of Westminster and four juveniles, ages 14 to 17, allegedly stormed into a house brandishing pistols and semiautomatic weapons, then bound several family members and ransacked the home for jewelry, cash and electronic equipment, police said.

Doan was arraigned on seven counts of residential robbery and eight counts of false imprisonment. There were eight people in the house when the home invasion occurred.

Doan was also charged with felony street terrorism for alleged gang activity and one count of child endangerment.

Police said that during the attack the gunmen allegedly aimed their weapons at a 3-year-old girl who lives at the residence on the 7800 block of 13th Street.

Westminster Police Detective Marcus Frank said that all five suspects are believed to be members of an Asian gang and that one of the youths arrested Monday night had apparently escaped about a month ago from a minimum-security juvenile camp operated by the County Probation Department.

No shots were fired during the 30-minute ordeal, and no injuries were reported.

A victim called police after he escaped from the house by leaping off a second-floor balcony. The first of the gunmen to leave the house was arrested immediately, and the remaining four were arrested after a short standoff with police.

A detention hearing for the four youths will be held Thursday in Juvenile Court, Deputy Dist. Atty. John S. Anderson said.

The juveniles will probably face the same 17 felony counts as Doan, he said. They are being held at Juvenile Hall. Doan is in Orange County Jail on $100,000 bail.
