Dodgers Not Winning Fans With Their Play

Share

The Dodgers currently have a staggering $42-million payroll, thanks largely to the ludicrous TV contracts paid by CBS and ESPN, and, ultimately, the viewer, who expects to see competent major league baseball.

Last weekend, CBS and ESPN televised the Reds-Dodgers games. What the nation saw was a pathetic, error-riddled pair of one-sided Cincinnati victories that were over by the fourth inning. I’m not sure what the ratings were at the start of each game, but I’ll bet they were close to zero by the ninth inning.

If the networks continue to televise our millionaire boys in blue, it won’t be too long before the players’ salaries shrink to levels prior to Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale.
