PLATFORM : Gangs Doubt Police

The major gangs have forged a truce because they’re tired of killing and they realize the misery and damage they’ve caused over the years. This is a ray of hope. However, there is a contingent in the Police Department--officers with racist attitudes--that wants to see violence continue.

The Police Department denies these allegations. However, there is no perfect organization, and we can’t accept as fact every statement made by an officer.

If negative elements of the police are allowed to run rampant in the name of law and order, we are asking for more problems. We can’t let gangs ruin society--but police must deal with these young people tactfully.

We have an obligation to act as an extended family and save our young people because a generation cannot be written off. If we are responsive we can end the nightmare mentality of gangsterism.
