Conner Fourth in German Race

Marc Pajot, who skippered France’s recent America’s Cup entry, won his second consecutive race in the German Yachting Grand Prix on the Kiel Inner Fjord Saturday, but Britain’s Harold Cudmore won the overall title and the $40,000 prize that went with it.

Cudmore sailed the 52-foot one design sloop New Yorker into second-place in 6 to 8 knots of wind Saturday and finished the first series of the 1992 Formula One circuit with a first and two seconds.

Pajot let every mark of the 22-leg course and picked up $20,000 for second place. American Olympic silver medalist John Bertrand finished third and Dennis Conner took fourth Saturday and fourth overall for a $10,000 prize.

ROLLER HOCKEY

The Roller Hockey National Championships will be contested July 11-17 at Skate San Diego in National City.

National titles are up for grabs in gold, silver, bronze and junior divisions. The defending gold division national champion St. Louis Blast will return to defend its title. Wayne Nies, the MVP in the gold division last year and high scorer, leads the Blast.

BASEBALL

Steve Garvey will accompany 16 baseball trivia winners from Southern California when they are honored by Upper Deck All-Star FanFest and Major League Baseball on the whistle stop tour Tuesday morning at the San Diego Amtrak Station.

The world’s largest baseball, live entertainment and local little league players will great Garvey and the winners from 10:40 to 11:40. The baseball will be available for signing from 11 to 11:30.
