A 21-year-old man was fatally shot outside a Van Nuys restaurant early Sunday while showing friends his collection of semiautomatic weapons, police said.

Heoc Kee Yoon was shot in the chest shortly after 2 a.m. in the rear parking lot of the Seoul Seoul restaurant in the 8200 block of Louise Avenue, Officer Walter Thornhill said. Yoon was taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center and died less than two hours later.

Thornhill said Yoon and his friends, several of whom had been drinking, left the restaurant after it closed and went to the parking lot to look at Yoon’s cache of semiautomatic weapons. Sun Hong Min, 22, of Calabasas was looking at one of the guns when it fired, striking Yoon in the chest, Thornhill said.

Min left before police arrived, and the firearms were hidden inside the restaurant, Thornhill said. Detectives later found Min and arrested him about 9 a.m. near Saticoy Street and Lindley Avenue as he was making a telephone call.

Min was taken to West Valley Jail, where he was booked on suspicion of murder, Thornhill said.
