Building Permits Show Mixed 4-Month Picture

Industrial construction was the bright spot and commercial and multifamily projects suffered the sharpest setbacks in Ventura County during the first four months of the year, according to the Construction Industry Research Board.

The board reported that permits issued for new industrial projects in the county were valued at $11.5 million through April 30 of this year, compared to $2.5 million in the same period last year--an increase of 365%.

On the downside, office building permits in the county totaled $2.9 million through April of this year, compared to $14.2 million a year ago, a 79% decline.

Multifamily permits fell to 59 units this year from 155 last year, a drop of 62%. Permits for new single-family homes fell to 329 from 343, a 4% decline.
