Bush and Castro
If only President Bush could practice some of the fundamental democratic principles for which our country claims to stand! Your front-page photo (June 14) showing him and Fidel Castro giving each other the cold shoulder was a sad reminder that, even after the end of the Cold War, we cannot yet respect another’s right to have a different viewpoint without some economic reason.
What could be lost by dialogue? What could be gained? Would our Cuban neighbor be treated more like the king of Kuwait if he too had oil?
