LOS ANGELES COUNTY : $484,585 in Youth Sports Grants Awarded

A total of $484,585 in new grants to Southern California youth sports programs has been announced by the Amateur Athletic Foundation of Los Angeles, the organization charged with disseminating surplus funds from the 1984 Olympic Games.

The latest quarterly grants include $81,511 to the California Handicapped Skiers Foundation, $71,100 for a “sports and the law” program sponsored by the Constitutional Rights Foundation, $42,780 to the Riverside Aquatics Assn., and $38,046 to the Weingart East Los Angeles YMCA.

Other grants went to organizations in Oxnard, San Diego, San Marcos, Mission Viejo, Orange and Castaic.

The Amateur Athletic Foundation also offers its own programs, focusing this summer in areas hit by the riots. They include 12 chartered sports clubs, a summer swim program at nearly 100 city and county pools, and a beach volleyball program for youngsters from inner-city areas. Foundation grants and programs so far total more than $46 million.
