Tougher Canadian Drug Patent Laws Proposed: The Canadian government introduced in the House of Commons legislation that it said would extend to 20 years from 17 the effective patent protection of drugs. The legislation would eliminate compulsory licensing provisions of the existing patent law that have allowed generic firms to produce drugs under license before the expiration of patents.
