Mays, Reese Named All-Star Captains

Hall of Famer Willie Mays and Jimmie Reese, celebrating his 75th year in baseball, Monday were named honorary captains for the 63rd All-Star game, scheduled for July 14 at San Diego Jack Murphy Stadium.

Mays batted .302 in 22 seasons and finished his career with 660 home runs--third on the list behind Hank Aaron and Babe Ruth.

Reese, 87, is the conditioning coach for the Angels and roomed with Ruth with the New York Yankees in 1930-31. He began his career as a batboy for the Los Angeles Angels of the Pacific Coast League in 1917 and has been involved in baseball as a player, manager, coach and scout.
