El Monte : Applications for City Clerk
The City Council voted to accept new applications for city clerk rather than hold a special election to fill the position vacated when newly elected City Clerk Kathy Kaplan resigned.
Before the vote, Mayor Pat Wallach suggested that the council appoint Rose Griffith, the only other candidate in the April 14 election, to save time and “because she is the electorate’s choice.”
Wallach was outvoted, 4 to 1.
Applicants for the position must be registered to vote in the city. The job has a $574 monthly salary and a $100 car allowance.
Applications are due July 8 and will be considered by the council at a special session scheduled for July 13.
