South Gate : Council Reduces Increase in Trash-Collection Fees
Responding to a community outcry, the City Council backpedaled Tuesday night on the trash-collection fee hike it approved in April.
With a unanimous vote, the council reduced the collection charge from $11.68 to $10.93 on 101-gallon containers and to $9.28 for 64-gallon bins.
The council caused a furor in April when it approved a fee increase from $7.60 to $11.68 and approved a change in trash containers to 101-gallon bins. Residents complained that the containers were too large and unwieldy and asked the city to bring back the 64-gallon receptacles. Residents will be able to choose between the two.
