CAMP PENDLETON : EPA, Base Settle on Waste Violations
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has reached agreement with Camp Pendleton to settle violations of federal hazardous waste management regulations found last year.
The violations included failing to label and maintain hazardous waste containers, failing to provide adequate training to workers and storing hazardous waste without a permit, EPA officials said Wednesday.
The agreement commits Camp Pendleton to continue measures taken this year to bring its operations into full compliance with the federal Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, which governs the proper management of hazardous waste. Camp Pendleton must also certify that no hazardous waste has been stored outside permitted areas on the base longer than 90 days.
All federal facilities, including military bases, as well as state and local governments and private industry, are required to comply with the regulations.
