A lineup of eight Orange County alternative rock bands will play a benefit concert July 4 at the Fullerton Hofbrau to raise money for a planned series of free rock concerts in Fullerton’s Hillcrest Park. Steven Lamprinos, the event’s organizer, said that he hopes to stage a free concert every two months in the park, which was the site of a free Earth Day concert by local bands.

The benefit show at the Hofbrau, 323 N. State College Blvd., starts at 11 a.m. Admission is $4. The bands, in order of appearance, are Dada Oboe, Room to Roam, Trip the Spring, Derailed, Fat Shadow, Don’t Mean Maybe, Boomslang and Moonwash Symphony. Information: (714) 870-7400.

A Fourth of July concert at Laguna Niguel Regional Park will feature the debut performance of Midnight, a new hard rock band led by Stuart Smith, former guitarist of Sweet, the English band known for such ‘70s hits as “Little Willy” and “Ballroom Blitz,” and singer Paul Shortino, a former member of Quiet Riot.
