Who’s Ruining Whom, Anyway?

The Welkos piece does analyze the problem but misses the finer points of the debate. Or rather the lack of debate.
That most vocal industry types share a disdain of Ronald Reagan and things conservative is commonly accepted. But somebody out there elected Richard Nixon (twice), Reagan (twice) and George Bush. The real question is: Are there conservative members of the “cultural elite”? And are they afraid to voice just a smidgen of support for the issues raised by Dan Quayle and those championed by a local resident and former President who can’t even appear at an AIDS fund-raiser without being blamed for everything in the world except the demise of communism.
To be politically incorrect in Hollywood is to join the blacklist of the ‘90s. Is there another reason why not a single entertainment figure has ever made a public statement in favor of the pro-life movement? There must be at least one prominent person in this town who takes that side of the debate. Meanwhile, the pro-choice crowd proudly marches through Washington with zero fear of backlash.
