Saluting Jerry

Jerry Hulse’s (last column) (“Farewell to Unmet Friends,” June 7) started me thinking about a flight I had between April 1 and May 2, 1951. I was a captain on three separate airplanes that flew around the world. Before I departed on the trip, my boss called me to his office and explained that we would have a young newspaper reporter with us. His name was Jerry Hulse and he then worked for a small newspaper in the San Fernando Valley. It was soon after this that Jerry joined the Times. And it wasn’t long before I began to see stories about his travels that have gone on for 32 years. I salute you, Jerry Hulse, for your stories from all around planet Earth.
