After the Riots / NEWS IN BRIEF : FEDERAL AID : Nonprofit Groups Can Get U.S. Help
Nonprofit organizations that suffered losses or damage as a result of the riots may be eligible for federal assistance but must apply by Thursday, officials said.
To be eligible for disaster aid, organizations must provide essential governmental services and have tax-exempt status with the Internal Revenue Service.
Facilities that may be eligible include health care institutions, custodial care providers, certain educational facilities and private nonprofit facilities that provide space for day-care or senior citizen services.
