Reasons for Nation’s Ills

Share

Re “A Search for Crime Suspects” (June 26): I firmly believe that the social and economic ills of the nation can be traced to self-interest, greed and a lack of concern for others. Instead of talking about why people, with no hope for a decent job, become involved with crime, we want more police to throw them in jails, and the jails just breed more anger and more crime. We voted for politicians in the 1980s who told us that lower taxes for the wealthy and businesses would trickle down and produce a new America. What we got was a rampaging greed by those who got the tax loopholes. Even more greed downsized American businesses, throwing millions out of work. The next time you vote for a politician who encourages lower taxes, you might realize that this is a code word for “lack of concern for others” and realize what a disaster that has been for the middle class and the have-nots in the 1980s.
