Sixteen police officers descended this week on a warehouse just west of Moorpark, where they recovered stolen Sears, Roebuck & Co. clothing worth at least $300,000 and arrested six people suspected of belonging to a cargo theft ring, authorities said Wednesday.

Police raided the warehouse, located on the property of the Anacapa View Nursery, 15634 Tierra Rejada Road, about 1 p.m. Tuesday just as the suspects were loading the stolen clothing into two rental trucks, said Detective Aaron Martin of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Five men and one woman were arrested in the raid, which was conducted by four Ventura County sheriff’s deputies and a team of officers from six other agencies, including the Los Angeles Police Department, the FBI and the California Highway Patrol.

Adriana Cavallari, 35, was arrested on suspicion of receiving stolen property and possession of cocaine.

Jose Menendez, 27; Jorge Sanchez, 30; Oscar Cordova, 28; Cesar Castillo, 45, and Castillo’s 21-year-old son, also named Cesar Castillo, were arrested on suspicion of kidnaping a security guard at 1 a.m. June 20 during the theft of two Sears trucks that were full of clothing from a Los Angeles distribution center.

Martin would not disclose the hometowns of the people arrested, but he said none of them are local residents.

The owner of Anacapa View Nursery was questioned by police but not arrested, Martin said.

The nursery’s manager, who did not want to be identified, said the police raid surprised him and other employees.

The men who were arrested had begun leasing a room at the warehouse June 21, the nursery manager said.
