Malibu : Waste-Water Group to Meet
A waste-water study group is scheduled to meet at 7 o’clock tonight at the Point Dume Community Center to discuss sewer discharges into Malibu Creek from the Las Virgines Wastewater District at Tapia.
Among the group’s concerns are nitrates, assorted viruses and other contaminants working their way down the creek, into Malibu Lagoon and out into the surf.
“The only question is where it’s coming from,” Mayor Walt Keller said Wednesday. “If it’s coming from (Tapia), we have a right to ask them to treat it more thoroughly.”
The meeting is set against a backdrop of heightened complaints from surfers that the water is making them ill.
