Job Ads Slightly Higher in May: Slightly more help-wanted advertisements appeared in U.S. newspapers in May than April despite rising levels of unemployment, according to a Conference Board report. The business research group said the help-wanted index rose to 91 in May, one point above April’s 90 but three points below the year-ago reading of 94. The seasonally adjusted index, calculated on a 1967 base of 100, measures the amount of employment advertising in 51 newspapers across the country and is considered a useful barometer of labor market conditions.
