After the Riots / NEWS IN BRIEF : CLAIMS : Merchants Can Recover Taxes
Merchants whose inventories of tobacco or alcohol products were lost or damaged in the riots can file a single claim to recover federal excise taxes and customs duties.
The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms will process the claims, officials said.
Claims can be filed for goods that were lost, rendered unmarketable or condemned by officials, but not for products that were stolen. Claims must be filed by Nov. 2.
For more information, call the bureau at (213) 894-4817.
