Youth Choir Will Present Musical

The New Youth Choir of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Newport Beach will present Michael W. Smith’s musical “The Big Picture” on Sunday in the church sanctuary. The 30-voice high school and college student choir is directed by Lance E. Allen. The performance is at 7 p.m. and a freewill offering will be taken.

Also, the popular Beach Bible Study group will meet the next three Wednesdays at North Star Beach in Newport Beach. The topic is “The Obsessions of Our Culture: What the Bible Has to Say About Them.” Bring your beach chair to the sessions, which are from 10 to 11:15 a.m. To reach the Dover Shores site, follow the blue signs on Dover Drive to the corner of Polaris Drive and North Star Lane.

“Rediscovering the Amazing in Grace” is the title of a four-session class to be conducted by Prof. Roger Nicole beginning Sunday at 10:15 a.m. Nicole teaches theology at the Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, Fla. The Chancel Choir at Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church in Mission Viejo will present “That’s Entertainment” during an Ice Cream Social on Sunday evening. The choir will sing Broadway musical selections during the concert directed by Frank Hallock.

“How Do You Spell Freedom?” is the Rev. Stephen Howard Janssen’s sermon topic Sunday as he conducts his first worship service as the new pastor at the First Presbyterian Church of Orange. He served as pastor to the Woodside Presbyterian Church in Yardley, Pa., for 13 years before coming to California.

Father Ben L. Benedicto is being transferred from St. Justin Martyr Church in Anaheim to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in La Habra. Born in the Philippines, Father Benedicto was ordained in 1962. He received his theology degree from San Jose Seminary in Manila and served his first ministry in the United States at St. Kilian’s Church in Mission Viejo.

The Unitarian Universalist Women’s Federation Group of South Orange County will meet Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Laguna Beach. The topic for the evening is “What Lifetime Dream Are You Still Trying to Make Come True?” Betty Elliott will lead the discussion.
