From Times Staff and Wire Reports

The nation’s largest teachers’ union is committing $300,000 to combat violence and other problems at city schools. The National Education Assn. board approved spending the money and an NEA committee outlined an approach to city school issues. The committee urged making schools “weapon free” zones, convening a mayors’ conference on saving cities and schools, and encouraging multicultural education.
