TECHNOLOGY : Yuen Still Owns 8.4% of AST Research Stock, Qureshey 9.5%

Although Thomas C.K. Yuen is no longer guiding AST Research Inc. in Irvine, he still holds a hefty chunk of the computer company’s stock.

The former co-chairman of the computer company owns 2.59 million, or 8.4%, of AST’s 30.7 million shares outstanding, according to Invest/Net Group Inc., a research company in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. At Monday’s stock price of $14 a share, Yuen’s stake is worth $36.2 million.

Safi U. Qureshey, chief executive and the only one of three co-founders still at the company, owns 2.92 million shares, or 9.5% of the company’s stock. At the Monday price, Qureshey’s stake is worth $40.9 million.

Yuen has not sold any shares in 1992. Not counting stock-option exercises, Qureshey has sold 60,000 shares for a total of $1.2 million this year, according to Invest/Net. Qureshey’s most recent sale was 10,000 shares at $18.25 apiece on May 22.
