Your editorial (“Not the Last Word--but Not a Bad Start,” June 24) regarding Bill Clinton’s potential programs contained one idea which left me with great dismay. His “National Police Corps” would put 100,000 new officers, including unemployed military veterans, on city streets.

A very bad, scary idea. Under whose control will these people operate? From where will the funds come to pay them? At $20,000 or $25,000 per year times 100,000 men, are you sure you mean what the editorial said? A National Police Corps?
