NO RAIL, NO PENCIL: There was a lot of fanfare five years ago when the county announced plans to build a $6-million, quarter-mile monorail between the planned McDonnell Douglas Realty Co. office towers on MacArthur Boulevard and John Wayne Airport. But there won’t be a monorail--because there won’t be any office towers. . . . “The underlying project just didn’t pencil out financially,” says airport spokeswoman Courtney Wiercioch. The agreement between the county and McDonnell Douglas lapsed on June 30.
