Sales of Imported Cars Edge Up in Japan: Sales of imported cars in Japan rose 2% in June from a year earlier, the first advance in 18 months, the Japan Automobile Importers’ Assn. said. A big factor in the increase was the introduction of new Volkswagen models. The association said 18,156 imported cars, buses and trucks were sold last month, compared to 17,800 in the same period last year. German vehicles accounted for 59.42% of foreign sales. General Motors sales fell 8.9% to 869 vehicles, Ford sales jumped 17.7% to 310 vehicles and Chrysler sales rose 2.8% to 145 vehicles.
