La Verne : Swimmers: Keep Pool Open

Share

The possibility that the city may close the swimming pool at Las Flores Park brought a standing-room-only crowd of swimmers to Monday’s City Council meeting.

The pool was included by City Manager Martin R. Lomeli on a list of cuts to be made if the state reduces the city’s share of property taxes and vehicle-registration fees.

Andy Rosenberg, swim coach at Bonita High School, asked the council not to close the pool and said the swimmers would be happy to work with the city to reduce the cost of operating the facility.

Mayor Jon Blickenstaff promised that if there is any way to keep the pool open, the city will do so, but he added that La Verne--which has already laid off workers--may face additional budget cuts if the state reduces payments to cities to balance its budget.
